John Wayne

I come from a very libertarian background, growing up in rural Oregon. In 1970s and 1980s Oregon you meet a lot of people who worship John Wayne. As I think about how people I grew up with see the world I often put on my John Wayne glasses to see how someone from a rural town will see the riding the NYC subway for the first time, or eating Dominican food in Hell's Kitchen. Sadly, I think it is how many people approach the world around them, even when they didn't grow up watching John Wayne movies.
